Off-site Insurance Archives uses Pacific catwalk and work platform
Client: California-based national automobile insurance provider
Problem: This company underwrites multiple billions of dollars in premiums each year. Each policy requires a paper back-up, which heretofore was stored on 7’ x 36” open steel shelving. The constant need for increased storage drove the company to expand its facilities to multiple warehouse locations, which resulted in outrageous operating costs per square foot of storage.
Solution: A 16’ high Pacific double-deck steel shelving unit was installed with a grated catwalk between aisles, allowing the company to move up, not out. A vertical reciprocating conveyor now moves heavy boxes to and from the second level. Two stairways were also installed to optimize accessibility and safety, and a sprinkler system was installed, per fire code regulations. This entire system was built to seismic specifications.
Benefits: By utilizing their available vertical space, the storage area was significantly condensed, allowing fewer people to service more files. It also prevents the insurance company from taking on more warehouse space and incurring expanded operating costs. The savings in man hours and cost of square footage quickly offset the cost of new equipment.
