Client: National automobile insurance provider, based in California
Problem: Last year, this company underwrote $3 billion in premiums, and the company continues to grow. Each policy requires a paper back-up, which was stored on 7’ x 36” open steel shelving. This constant need for increased storage drove the company to expand its facilities to multiple warehouse locations, which resulted in outrageous operating costs per square foot of storage.
Solution: A 16’ high Pacific double-deck steel shelving unit was installed with a grated catwalk between aisles, allowing the company to move up, not out. A vertical reciprocating conveyor now moves heavy boxes to and from the second level. Two stairways were also installed to optimize accessibility and safety, and a sprinkler system was installed, per fire code regulations. This entire system was built to seismic zone 4 specifications.
Benefits: By utilizing their available vertical space, the storage area was significantly condensed, allowing fewer people to service more files. It also prevents the insurance company from taking on more warehouse space and incurring expanded operating costs. Western Pacific was able to keep the costs down by utilizing a portion of the company’s existing equipment. The savings in man hours and cost of square footage quickly offset the cost of new equipment.
Third Party Logistics/Off-site Storage, Deluxe
Client: Off-site Storage for a Major Airline Manufacturer
Problem: With such a vast array of large stock, this airline manufacturer preferred not to use their own space and personnel to manage their inventory storage. They decided to give their loading and storage responsibilities to a third party logistics company. To accommodate the outsourced storage needs, Western Pacific came in to help them make the best use of space in storing the large inventory.
Solution: PSS outfitted the company’s multiple locations throughout the U.S. with steel clip shelving for parts inventory.
Benefits: The logistics company was able to best serve their client by keeping the inventory safe and organized, and maximized the space they had for inventory.
Third Party Logistics/Off-site Storage, Pacific/QuikPik
Client: Southern California Off-site Storage for Puma
Problem: The logistics company was bidding to provide Puma with an off-site storage system that would keep their shoes and clothing products organized and easily accessible.
Solution: Western Pacific designed a two-level system for the logistics company, where the lower level was outfitted with QuikPik for fastest moving items, and Pacific steel clip shelving was installed on the top level to house slower moving products.
Benefits: The common sizes and popular-style shoes were kept downstairs in QuikPik gravity flow racks. With one picking slot storing product eight feet deep, not only were they ensured fast picking and efficiency, but they could also fit more product into a smaller amount of space. Pickers would go upstairs for uncommon shoe sizes, and styles that weren’t purchased nearly as often. By combining both QuikPik and Pacific product lines, the system was designed to best utilize the space and provide the ability to pick efficiently. Because of the excellent design by Western Pacific, the third party company was able to bid on and successfully provide for Puma.
