Problem: The retail operation, under new ownership, wanted to expand on the previous owner’s product selection, including tennis shoes, business, and casual clothes, by including products like hardware, grocery items, children’s toys, and other bulk sundry items.
They leased a 150,000 square ft. space, and decided on an industrial look for the store.
Solution: Western Pacific worked with Army & Navy’s design team to outfit the store with RiveTier boltless shelving, a broad and versatile storage system. Cantilever arms were specified for hanging products, and casters for mobility. Tables were created with bin dividers to hold soft goods such as socks, and benches provided seating. The counters and check out stands were also constructed with the boltless product.
Benefits: An industrial look with an inexpensive price tag satisfied both the customer and the design team.
New Retail Store Location, RiveTier
Client: Nationwide shoe retailer
Problem: A recent move resulted in inadequate backroom storage necessary for their inventory of sixty thousand pairs of shoes.
Problem: Finding a supplier capable of handling the seismic issues present in Primm, Nevada (seismic zone three).
Solution: By taking advantage of the 27' ceiling height, a triple-level RiveTier catwalk system was designed to maximize the total cubic space available. RiveTier's unlimited flexibility in design, together with Western Pacific’s engineering team, ensured that the system complied with all seismic regulations in the Primm area.
Benefits: Existing storage space was maximized, enabling control over storage flexibility, and ultimate organization.
Retail Distribution Center, Supplying over 300 Retail Outlets, QuikPik
Client: Lens Crafters
Problem: Between offering a large selection of frames and lenses, and housing a full surfacing and finishing laboratory on site in every store, this sole distribution center had quite the operation to master. Static rack was initially used for order picking, which slowed efficiency down tremendously.
Solution: Three rows of QuikPik, each measuring roughly 52 feet, were installed. Because the product is small and uniform in size, Western Pacific’s flow rack proved ideal.
Benefits: The horizontal and vertical adjustability allows much higher storage density than Lens Crafters had been able to achieve using conventional shelving. The flexibility of QuikPik also allows fast lane adjustments for product changes. Pickers have immediate access to 48 different products in each section. According to the Distribution manager for Lens Crafters, QuikPik has improved their order picking efficiency by 30%. There is also less risk of product damage since the open cartons are not stacked on top of each other or subject to constant handling during picking.
High-end Retail Store Storage, RiveTier
Problem: The company’s current shelving units were inadequate for their storage needs and unstable in their construction. Visible swaying was creating a safety concern for employees.
Solution: Western Pacific surveyed the storage and realized that by utilizing both compacting mobile and lateral mobile systems they could maximize the available space while providing a structurally stable storage solution.
Benefits: The job was received on a Friday and installed during the weekend hours so as not to interrupt operations. Now, the lateral stability and structural integrity of the RiveTier storage system allows employees peace of mind regarding workplace safety.
Women’s Apparel Retail Clothing Store, RiveTier
Client: Vanity Fair
Problem: Garments stored on shelving products were difficult to keep organized and in their correct place. Storage space was diminishing, requiring additional space for growing inventory.
Solution: RiveTier boltless shelving, incorporated with hang bars and particleboard shelving was utilized to increase organization. Hang bars were included to eliminate wasted space associated with folded garment piles and enabled faster picking.
Benefits: Increased efficiencies and expanded storage capacity, contributed to Vanity Fair sales of over $100,000.
Retail Distribution Headquarters, RiveTier/QuikPik
Client: Books on Tape
Problem: With a growing number of new titles added to an already extensive catalog, the company was beginning to run out of room in a building they had to remain in for another 3 years. Because they had no room to expand the picking and packing area, Books on Tape was in dire need of using their space more efficiently.
Solution: A hybrid solution made the most of a tricky job. RiveTier gravity flow rack, an economical alternative to standard carton flow rack, was ideally suited for Books on Tape's weight and size requirements. QuikPik RollaTrak and guide rails were set into RiveTier shelf frames and uprights to allow for fast retrieval. Because short product slots were crucial, picking and restocking could both take place from the front.
Benefits: Easy access for picking, inventory control, high product visibility, and maximum facings was created. Not to mention, a back-to-back system that fully utilized available space. Books on Tape now has 1800 more product facings, increasing available slots by 34%, while enjoying the picking efficiencies of a carton flow system, without using additional floor space.
