The Success Story of a Housewares & Linen Retailer’s Warehouse Overhaul
Near a bustling city stood an old warehouse, a relic of a once-modern housewares & linens retailer’s past. Its antiquated system of pick and retrieval had long outlived its efficiency, causing delays and increasing labor costs. Enter the heroes of our story: Western Pacific Storage Solutions’ dedicated dealers and integrators. They were approached with a challenge that required more than just expertise, it demanded innovation.
WPSS’ new RiveTier AMR Rack shelving for AMRs goes to work in the U.S.
The integrator took a deep dive into the retailer’s operations, meticulously analyzing every aspect of the outdated system. They envisioned a future where autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) could bring goods directly to workers, streamlining processes and cutting down on time and labor costs.
The key to this transformation lay in Western’s RiveTier AMR Rack base units attached to AMRs that would safely move pallets of housewares & linens throughout the warehouse. But in the near future, plans call for adding RiveTier AMR Rack’s shelving atop the bases for even more efficiency after further retrofitting takes place inside the facility.
During their test period, the integrator encountered a potential alternative: an Asian-based manufacturer offering seemingly comparable units. However, a closer inspection revealed the truth, the flimsy units could not match the robust construction of Western Pacific’s American made samples.
Determined to deliver the best, the integrator and the retailer collaborated with WPSS, conducting rigorous testing of the AMRs with the RiveTier AMR Rack bases during the pallet mover and routine shelving unit tests. The results were astounding. The superior quality and customized features were no match for overseas.
RiveTier AMR Rack’s ease of assembly of WPSS’s units, shipped knocked down (KD) and assembled with just a few taps of a rubber hammer and eight screws (to attach the base to the AMR), proved invaluable. Unlike the slow, unreliable shipping from overseas, WPSS’s prompt 6-8 week lead time ensured a swift transformation.
The retailer started with 250 RiveTier AMR Rack base units, witnessing immediate improvements in efficiency and reduced labor costs. Embracing the Goods to People model, they have planned future expansions, and are pleased with WPSS customized units to fit their unique needs.
This journey wasn’t just about updating a warehouse; it was about demonstrating the undeniable advantages of American quality engineering. Through perseverance and collaboration, WPSS and its integrators turned a challenge into a triumph, setting a new standard for modern warehouse operations.
